No ring sizer, no jeweller visit. A strip of paper, a ring you already own, or a ruler is enough. This page covers the Indian ring size chart in millimetres, three ways to measure, and what to do if you land between two sizes.

Three ways to measure your ring size

Use whichever you have on hand. All three get you within half a size, which is all the chart below needs.

The thread method

  1. Wrap a thread or paper strip snugly around the base of the finger.
  2. Mark where it overlaps. Lay it flat and measure the length in mm — that's your circumference.
  3. Match it to the chart below. Between two sizes, size up.

The existing-ring method

  1. Pick a ring that already fits the finger you're sizing for.
  2. Lay it flat on a ruler or the printable strip below and measure the inner diameter, edge to edge, in mm.
  3. Match the diameter to the chart. This is usually the most accurate of the three methods.

  1. Print the sizer at 100% scale — never "fit to page".
  2. Check the 2 cm calibration square with a ruler before trusting the strip.
  3. Wrap it around the finger the same way as the thread method and read the size directly.

Before you measure

  • Measure at the end of the day. Fingers are at their largest then, and smallest first thing in the morning or in cold weather.
  • Measure the exact finger you'll wear the ring on — the dominant hand usually runs half a size larger than the other.
  • Snug, not tight. The thread or strip should slide off with gentle resistance, not effort.
  • Between two sizes on the chart? Go up, not down. A slightly loose ring is a five-minute exchange; a tight one is a daily irritation.

Ring sizing, answered

How do I find my ring size at home without a ring sizer?

Wrap a thread or paper strip around the base of the finger, mark the overlap, and measure the length against a ruler in millimetres. Match that number to the circumference column in the chart above. It takes about two minutes and needs nothing beyond thread, a pen, and a ruler.

What is the difference between US and Indian ring sizes?

Both measure the same thing — inner diameter — on different number scales. Indian size 12, for instance, is the same physical size as US size 6. The chart above lists both side by side so you can convert either way.

I'm between two sizes. Which one should I order?

Order the larger of the two. A ring that's slightly loose can be tightened with a resizing bead or exchanged; a ring that's genuinely tight is uncomfortable every time it's worn.

Does finger size change during the day?

Yes. Fingers are smallest in the morning and in cold weather, and largest in the evening and in heat. Measure in the evening for the most reliable everyday-wear size.

Can I measure my ring size using a ring I already own?

Yes, and it's usually the most accurate of the three methods. Lay the ring flat on a ruler and measure the inner diameter, edge to edge, then match it to the diameter column in the chart.

Is ring size the same on every finger?

No. Measure the specific finger you intend to wear the ring on — sizes commonly differ by half a size to a full size between fingers, and between the dominant and non-dominant hand.
