What Is HUID?
HUID stands for Hallmark Unique Identification.
It is a unique six-character alphanumeric code assigned to a hallmarked jewellery (gold or silver) article at the time of hallmarking. Think of it as a unique identification number for that particular hallmarked piece.
The idea is simple: instead of a hallmark being just a stamp that tells you the purity of the metal (gold or silver), the HUID adds traceability to that particular jewellery.
When a jewellery piece is hallmarked, its 6 character HUID is recorded in the BIS system along with other relevant details of that article. This allows customers to verify the hallmark and check the information associated with the jewellery they have purchased.
How to Verify Your HUID
Buying hallmarked jewellery should come with one simple feeling: Confidence.
When you buy a hallmarked gold jewellery piece in India, you don't have to simply take the seller's word for it. Every hallmarked article (gold or Silver) carries a unique HUID — Hallmark Unique Identification number
that can be checked through the official BIS system.
Here's how to verify yours.
1. How to find is your jewellery HUID marked or not.
Take a close look for a hallmark stamp on your jewellery.
Near the hallmark there should be a 6 digit alphanumeric code stamped. These digits will be extremely small, you may need a jewellery loupe or else you can also use your mobiles macro camera to read it clearly.
2. Open the BIS CARE app
When you found the 6 Digit code on
your jewellery, you can cross verify on the Govt. of India’s official BIS Care app from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). You can download the app from below link -

There you can look for an option to cross verify your HUID.
Enter HUID number and submit for verification.
3. Check the details
The HUID record should provide details associated with the hallmarked article.
Take a moment to compare what is displayed with the jewellery you actually have.
Check the metal purity, article details and other information shown in the BIS record.
The purpose of verification is simple: the jewellery in your hand should correspond with the hallmark
information registered against that HUID.
4. Don't stop at the stamp
A hallmark is more than a tiny mark on the inside of a ring or bracelet or any jewellery.
It is a traceable identification system approved by Government of India. The Govt. encourage you to verify your each piece of your jewellery in terms of purity.

For example, 925 refers to the purity of sterling silver, while the HUID is a separate identification code used as part of India's hallmarking system for applicable hallmarked articles.
And always verify your HUID through the official BIS channel, rather than relying only on a seller's screenshot or a third-party website.
