The metal
It looks gold. It’s silver underneath.
This piece is solid 925 sterling silver with an 18K gold micron plating on top. Not gold-plated brass. Not gold-filled. Silver, all the way through — which is the metal that carries the BIS hallmark and the HUID number stamped inside.
Plating is a finish, and finishes wear. Ours is a micron layer, thicker than the flash plating most online silver carries, and with normal wear it holds for a long time. It will not hold forever, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something.

The stone
Real colour. Cut in Jaipur.
Amethyst is quartz that turned purple through iron and natural radiation over millions of years. It is India's most-searched coloured stone, and it is the rare purple that works with both a navy shirt and a red saree. At 7 on the Mohs scale it handles daily wear without fuss.
Rose quartz is quartz with traces of titanium and manganese, and the microscopic inclusions that give it colour are also what make it cloudy rather than clear. That is why it is cut as a smooth cabochon rather than faceted — the shape the stone actually wants. Mohs 7, the same hardness as amethyst.
No two are the same. Including yours.
Every stone we set came out of the ground, so colour and character shift from one piece to the next. The stone that reaches you will not be identical to the one photographed here — a shade deeper, a shade cooler, an inclusion sitting somewhere no other stone has it.
That difference is the proof. Cubic zirconia is made to a formula, which is why a tray of it looks perfectly matched. Stones never do. If a seller promises you identical stones at a silver price, they are describing a formula, not a stone.
We cut and set this one for you. Nobody else has it, and we could not make it again if we tried. Which seems about right, given who it is for.
Amethyst is routinely heated to reach its colour — ours included. It is permanent, it is standard across the trade, and we mention it because you shouldn’t have to ask.
Check it yourself
Don’t take our word for it. Take the government’s.
Every Carat Hills piece carries a HUID stamped inside. Silver hallmarking is voluntary in India, so most silver sold online does not have one. Ours does, and you can check it without trusting us at all.
Download the BIS Care app. It is free, and it is the Bureau of Indian Standards’ own.
Find the six-character HUID stamped inside your piece and type it in.
You’ll see the purity grade, the testing centre, and the date it was hallmarked.

Before and after you buy
The details
Caring for a gold-plated finish
Take it off before bathing, swimming, workouts and sleeping, and keep it away from perfume, lotion and household cleaners. Wipe it with the cloth we send after wearing and store it in its pouch. The silver underneath tarnishes — that is normal and reversible, and it is one of the ways you can tell real silver from plated brass.
Certification and testing
Ask us and we will send you a signed certificate of authenticity from our own workshop — the stone, its size, and for lab-grown diamonds the colour and clarity grade. It is free, it comes as a PDF, and you can ask for it before you order or after.
We will also photograph your actual piece under magnification before it leaves us, so you see the stone you are getting rather than the one in the listing. On a natural stone the inclusions are the proof — cubic zirconia is made to a formula, and a tray of it looks identical all the way through.
If you want a third party’s word rather than ours — for insurance, for resale, or for a piece you are giving to someone else — we can arrange an independent report from SGL. A gemstone report is ₹415 and a diamond jewellery report is ₹2,360. That is exactly what the laboratory charges us; we add nothing, and we absorb the tax and payment charges on top ourselves. Add it to your cart along with this piece: order a lab report →
Skin safety
Our pieces are nickel-free. Nickel is the metal most people react to, and it isn’t in ours — which is why these are made to be worn every day, not saved for occasions. If you have a known metal sensitivity, tell us before you order and we’ll help you choose.
Shipping and exchanges
Free shipping across India on every order. Dispatched within three to five working days, delivered in five to eight. If something arrives damaged or faulty, tell us within seven days and we’ll replace it or refund you, and we pay the return shipping. Ring not fitting? Free resizing, once per order, within seven days. We don’t take change-of-mind returns. Full policy →
