The metal

Not white gold. Not platinum. Silver.

This piece is solid 925 sterling silver, finished with rhodium — the same metal jewellers use to finish white gold, applied here over silver. It is what keeps the white bright and slows tarnish.

Rhodium is a finish, and finishes wear. With normal wear it holds for a long time; it will not hold forever, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something. The silver underneath is what carries the BIS hallmark and the HUID stamped inside.

The stone

Real colour. Cut in Jaipur.

Almost every blue topaz sold anywhere — ours included — begins as colourless topaz and is treated to reach this blue. That is the industry standard, and we would rather you heard it from us. What you get for it is a stone at 8 on the Mohs scale, harder than quartz, and a blue that does not fade with wear.

No two are the same. Including yours.

Every stone we set came out of the ground, so colour and character shift from one piece to the next. The stone that reaches you will not be identical to the one photographed here — a shade deeper, a shade cooler, an inclusion sitting somewhere no other stone has it.

That difference is the proof. Cubic zirconia is made to a formula, which is why a tray of it looks perfectly matched. Stones never do. If a seller promises you identical stones at a silver price, they are describing a formula, not a stone.

We cut and set this one for you. Nobody else has it, and we could not make it again if we tried. Which seems about right, given who it is for.

Blue topaz is routinely treated to reach its colour — ours included. It is permanent, it is standard across the trade, and we mention it because you shouldn’t have to ask.

Caring for a rhodium finish

Rhodium slows tarnish but does not stop wear. Take it off before bathing, swimming, workouts and sleeping, and keep it away from perfume, lotion and household cleaners. Wipe it with the cloth we send after wearing and store it in its pouch.

Skin safety

Our pieces are nickel-free. Nickel is the metal most people react to, and it isn’t in ours — which is why these are made to be worn every day, not saved for occasions. If you have a known metal sensitivity, tell us before you order and we’ll help you choose.

Shipping and exchanges
